My favorite Creators
This year, I found myself actively looking for new creators and falling out of love with some I’ve been excited about for years. Maybe this is a reflection of a larger shift as I’m no longer just a consumer of content but a creator of content.
💛 Valentin
Zackary Smiegel
Zackary Smiegel came out of nowhere and immediately became a must watch every time he uploaded. His amateurish aesthetic paired with incredible knowledge of internet subculture is exactly the thing I didn’t know I needed.
If you dig just a little bit under the surface you find out he’s been on YouTube for a long time in various forms but his namesake channel ist what finally gained him a large audience. The now infamous video titled: I promise, this belongs here brought in a lot of new viewers and inspired copycats to take on his simple yet bold thumbnail style. Some even claimed this will be the next big trend in thumbnail design.
Now imagine YouTube would get rid of thumbnails and just have video titles on black background …
Jay Alto
Jay alto, the twitter king of thumbnails, started his foray into YouTube and despite having an existing audience of (aspiring) Creators his move into video got little attention. It shows that writing and video are two very different forms of art and breaking through on a new platform can be challenging even if you already have a following.
Female Driven Content
Now, for this last section, I can't just pick one creator. Over the last few months I watched less and less of the male dominated self improvement section and instead gravitated towards female content creators that hit similar topics but in a much more relaxed kind of way. It also helps that most of them incorporate lot’s of outdoor scenes into their videos.
Brooke Cormier was the first Creator I discovered in this category and her openness to sharing what it’s like to be a full time artist is what caught my attention.
Danni Connor Wild captured my attention with her passion for photographing squirrels.
Lost in Admiration is all the productivity advice I used to love but in a much more, do it your way, approach.
Ottilie started documenting her life of adventure in the Norwegian mountains and embraces slow living.
I hope one of them resonates with you.
Honorary Mention - Pottery Content
I sort of discovered how relaxing pottery can be an these two channels have been in my content diet since.
