My Favorite Videos

With all the content we constantly consume, it’s hard to remember what truly stood out. Looking back at my history there are some that did stand out for various reasons. 💛 Valentin

Everything is Content

What even is content and why is everything content?
This excellent breakdown by Patrick H. Willems goes deep on the subject and details how we got here. For anyone who is creating creative output I can highly recommend you give it a click. That’s all I’m going to say to avoid spoilers.

What this video also did was, it let me rediscover a creator I haven’t watched for years. Patrick was a go to for me while I was still in film production but over time his videos disappeared for me. Now he is back in my feed and I make time to watch his long video essays with joy.

Experience the Parthenon

This summer on a family vacation we spend a few days in a Hotel in Athens and that’s where I saw the YouTube algorithm at work like never before. Let me explain: When you are visiting a city as a tourist it’s normal to look up where to go and what to see. And one of the most visited places in Athens is the Acropolis, which we visited but it was extremely hot and crowded so the experience was less than awesome.
Later that day, we browsed YouTube on the smart TV in the hotel room. After a few searches and clicks on videos, it presented us with this highlight.

A full walk through of the Parthenon with historical facts and context. All in full color as it used to be, back in Athens glory days. This was possible because of the faithful rendering in Assassins Creed Odyssey. It was also the perfect video for me to find in that moment and now all I wish is that museums had a few consoles with this for visitors to explore.

Loneliness

I mentioned Brook in last weeks but it was this video in particular that caught my attention. At the time I was helping a lot of creators to feel less lonely by hosting virtual meet ups and so I was very curious to hear her perspective on the matter. In it she casually reveals that she lived in Vienna for while and that was all I need to hear to subscribe. Unfortunately for me she now lives in Canada again but her videos are still very relatable and maybe she visits Vienna again in the future. Who knows …
