He Cheated on YouTube
Cheat Codes, Sandwich and Zombies
This week was the first one without a video being published since the launch of the Orbit this past fall. That makes it the longest weekly upload streak I’ve ever had as a creator. Now, it’s time to create new videos and meet new creators to bring the next seasons to life.

YouTube Cheat Codes
Would you start a new channel if you had one that gains a million views in a month? That’s what Bruno Kay did after losing passion for making skateboard videos.
A year ago, he silently launched a new YouTube channel, aiming to dispel the notion that success on the platform is mere luck. It was also a way for him to focus on craft and improving his filmmaking. To do that he focused on crafting high-effort, high-quality videos, sacrificing quantity for a more meticulous approach. Starting from ground zero, zero views, and zero subscribers can be a humbling experience but to his credit Bruno had already spent five years mastering the "cheat codes" of YouTube on his original channel.
But even still with all of that prior knowledge it wasn’t an instant success. Some videos completely failed and other took a long time to get picked up. What stands out to me is that he continued to look for better ways to present his videos and that he continued to push for quality content. Which ultimately gained him 800,000 views and 13,700 subscribers within a year.
Idiot Sandwich
Gordon Ramsay launched his new show idiot sandwich on Youtube
Not only is Idiot Sandwich based on an infamous meme but more importantly, to the global creator economy, is that it’s a joint production between Ramsay’s production company and FOX, a very traditional media outlet.
This signals that traditional broadcasters are noticing the decline in viewership on TV and streaming services.
The End
Usually I put one more link here to an interesting creator story, something wholesome or simply entertaining but there was nothing this week that stood out. January is typically a month where things move slower and you might see less output from creators. But in addition I also changed my consumption routine by disabling all social media apps during the day and only giving myself access after 5pm. After the advice: Instead of scheduling time off, schedule time on — my overall intake of content has definitely gone down.

Inside the Orbit
I had the pleasure to talk with Alex Antolino this week and we spontaneously decided to host a get together in Barcelona this spring (probably March).
So if you are a BCN native or in the area let me know and I’ll add you to the invitation list.
