How to get everything you want?

Money, Studio and Craftsmanship

The first two months of this year have been a big transformation process for me and this newsletter. The goal has always been to make this the best resource for creators. But what does that mean exactly and who are the creators it can help the most?

Helping and highlighting European Creators has always been important to me but at the same time it’s incredibly restricting and irrelevant to limit the audience by a single region.

So after a few design thinking workshops and coaching sessions -
The Orbit Newsletter is a weekly collection of curated content delivering insights to creators who value work life balance over hyper growth.

How does that sound to you?

Do you make a living as creator?

Many of us are pursuing a life as creators to earn a living doing what we love and step away from client work, yet few of us invest the time to establish clear, achievable goals to reach that point.

Sure, hitting 1 million views sounds fantastic, but does it translate to financial stability? Let’s look at some numbers to find out.

To simplify let’s say, a YouTube video earns creators €2 per thousand views. To reach a monthly income of €4000 solely from views, you'd need 2 million views monthly. That is actually quite a lot 😰

If your viewership isn’t there yet, think about relationships you can leverage with people working at brands closely aligned with your audience. By communicating a long term vision you might be able to secure a 12-month partnership with one brand for €48,000, or splitting it with two sponsors for €24,000 each.
That is how I just locked in a paid deal with my favorite camera manufacturer at less than 500 subscribers. 🤯

If brand partnerships still seem out of reach, why not take matters into your own hands? Create and sell a digital product tailored to your audience's needs. Think about something you made for yourself to make work easier and imagine selling this to just 800 people at €5 each—that's your rent and groceries covered! 🛒

Keep in mind that financial success isn't the only measure of accomplishment in the creator world. There are countless non-monetary rewards, such as fostering a community, personal growth, and making a meaningful impact. 🌱

But by breaking down your goals into actionable steps and understanding the potential revenue streams, you'll be motivated to pursue your passion for creating engaging content. Let's take a step forward to make money from fun videos, rather than settling for boring projects. 🚀

Old Concept - New Version

As long as I’ve been a creator I’ve been looking at ways to have everything I need to make videos ready to go in the simplest way possible. Recently, I stumbled upon an absolute gem: a video from Flatlander Tech that introduced a new iteration of the one-stand studio concept.

I can't wait to create my own variation of this once I’ll have a dedicated studio space. But how do you manage all the gear needed to film? I want to see your creative solutions! Share a picture or video of your studio setup using the hashtag #orbitstudiotours. Let's inspire each other to optimize our creative spaces and elevate our content creation game!

Doing One Thing Well

When it comes to craftsmanship Japan is undoubtedly one of the places you can still find artisans dedicated to making one thing extremely well.

That is what Joe Allam explores in this mini doc about 3 masters in Osaka. Through Joe's lens, viewers are transported into the heart of Osaka's manufacturing world, where tradition meets innovation to produce items that not only enrich people's lives but also symbolize Japan's enduring commitment to craftsmanship. Who would’ve thought that seeing someone make towels, bespoke sake cups or iron frying pans could be that inspiring?

To me it serves as a reminder that we don’t have to do everything and sometimes doing one thing well is worth a lot more than doing many things poorly.
