What’s next for creators?
Content Categories and ADHD Vibes
Going into the third week of Orbit’s launch has me thinking a lot about marketing and outreach which is often not the most exciting part of being a creator. One quote that change my mind on this come from Tina Roth-Eisenberg founder of Creative Mornings:
“Marketing is nothing but a transfer of enthusiasm”
What’s next for You?
What does your audience want to see from you?
Fortunately, there's a valuable framework inspired by the BBC's approach to categorizing content based on audience needs, and it's simpler than it sounds.
It involves breaking down content into four key components: functional, emotional, outward, and inward. This might sound a bit fancy, but it's a powerful way to guide your content creation. Just pause for a moment and ask yourself, "What does this next piece of content do for a viewer?" Does it…
Inspire Me
Amuse Me
Educate Me
Give Me Perspective
Update Me
Keep Me On Trend
In essence, this framework can be your North Star, helping you pinpoint the purpose your content serves. It allows you to explore new formats while retaining a sense of familiarity. Understanding whether your content fulfills a functional or emotional need can define the tone of your output, while considering whether it serves an outward or inward need informs how your content is consumed and shared.
Most pieces of internet media obviously combine multiple needs into a single post, creating a broader connection with the audience.
If that gave you a new perspective download the graphic and share it on social. Bonus points if you link the newsletter Ok now onto the ADHD section
What next for Jesse Driftwood?
This collage of unfinished projects was so delightful and relatable to watch. It showed me that abandoning projects for no reason whatsoever is totally OK and part of the process. Everyone with an ongoing flow of ideas has been in this state of questioning oneself for the choices made along the way. My own project that I should revive is the Cardboard Cleric channel amongst others. If you consider yourself somewhere on the ADHD spectrum definitely give it a watch and share your list of unfinished projects.
What’s next for Patreon?
Patreon started out as a project to solve Jack Conte’s own problem of how to make creation on the internet worth it. Ten years later being a creator is a relatively normal thing and monetization options are plentiful. Which leads Patreon to shift it’s business from being a Creator membership platform to becoming the creator fandom company. Introducing a slew of new features including chat, shops and a brand new mobile app.
Aside from delivering the news this video makes me feel like I’m inside Jacks brain and that’s a good thing.
